Beth, Morty's mother and Rick's daughter, falls into the interesting tropes of motherhood and and married life. Having gotten married to Jerry after conceiving a child at 17, Beth is unhappy in most aspects of her life as a mother, wife, and at work as a horse surgeon.

Jerry, Beth's husband, is a rather weak partner for his assertive wife. He is clearly inept at his job and has no sense of what his children want or need. As another male character in this show, he represents one side of the male dichotomy: the sexless, weak, and mopey man.
