Gender in TV
Female representation in TV has been under investigation for quite some time. Needless to say, there is still a lot of room for improvement. However, male representation tends to be ignored. By now, a lot of television writers know to avoid creating blatantly stereotypical women, but men still face rather overt stereotypes. For one, a dichotomy has been created; men are either delicate and weak or rude and physically powerful. Since the early 2000s, the role of the "mook" has taken a powerful lead in many TV series. Secondly, men are supposed to be ignorant about any kind of emotion. For example, in A Gifted Man, the male lead needs to be taught how to have emotions as it does not come naturally to him. In this thread, men must resort to violence to solve their problems, whereas women tend to sort through issues through conversation and emotion.
